Operation Smile Canada

about

Operation Smile Canada is a leading global non-profit that is transforming the lives of children born with cleft lip and palate in low- and middle-income countries. Together with our generous supporters, volunteers and partners, we deliver life-changing care, strengthen local health care systems and bring hope to communities worldwide.

Operation Smile began in the United States in 1982 with a commitment to delivering life-changing cleft surgery and comprehensive care to patients around the world. In 2011, Operation Smile Canada was born from that promise — helping thousands of children receive bright new smiles and new futures full of possibilities.

Why Cleft Surgery Matters

Every three minutes, a child is born with a cleft lip or cleft palate. And an estimated 5 million people around the globe are living with untreated cleft conditions. Without proper care, these children often struggle to eat, speak or breathe — and in many places, they face rejection, isolation and even abandonment.

You Can Make an Impact

We know Canadians like you believe every child deserves a chance at life. Since 2011, compassionate donors and dedicated volunteers have helped us provide cleft surgery and care for children around the world who have waited for too long. With your support, we can continue creating solutions that deliver safe surgery and complete cleft care closer to the homes of patients who need it most.

We believe all children deserve to live with dignity. And for those living with the challenges of a cleft lip, cleft palate or other facial differences, dignity begins with a smile. Join us in making a real impact and give children the gift of a new smile.
